Considering the fact that Raigad was the capital of the Maratha King Shivagi Maharaj, Raigad seems to have the most heroic history in Maharashtra. The Raigad fort is one of the favourite weekend getaways destination among the trekkers in Maharashtra.
Well, because it’s built on the Sahyadri Mountains at an altitude of 2700 feet above sea level. Not everyone is into climbing to the top, but everyone does want to enjoy the view from an eagle’s eye. The cable cars in Raigad are a boon to people who are not into adventure; others can enjoy their trip by climbing 1737 steps to be exact!
The view from top is picturesque and will leave you spell bound! The fort is not in its best conditions, and most of the fort’s interiors are in ruins now. Though, some of the structures are still clearly visible. The queen’s chambers, main palace, three watch towers, the market area, granaries, the public ‘durbar’ and an artificial lake are still quite intact.
Those interested in history are sure going to enjoy a visit to Raigad Fort!
#23 Murud-Janjira Fort
Murud-Janjira is famous for being the hottest weekend getaways from Mumbai, and the Murud-Janjira fort which stands on an island bordering Murud. Murud is a coastal village in the Raigad district. Its major income is through tourism; thanks to the ancient Murud-Janjira fort.
Murud-Janjira fort has an interesting history, which along with the fort’s construction and architecture, is a major tourist attraction. Murud-Janjira is best visited in the months of October to May; the monsoon months make it difficult to travel to and fro from the fort.

Tarkarli is known for its serene beach, and adventurous water sports. Tarkarli is a coastal village situated in the Malvan region of Maharashtra; to be honest you need to take out 3 days to enjoy Tarkarli!
Tarkarli is also one of the preferred coastal village in Maharashtra for water sports. You can indulge in water sports like Scuba Diving, Boating, Snorkelling, Rafting, and even Dolphin-spotting. I remember we spotted 2 beautiful Dolphins on our visit to Tarkarli. It sure will leave you feeling happy and ecstatic that you took this vacation!
The best time to visit Tarkarli is from October to March; basically the winter months. This is because it gets way too hot during summer, and during monsoon you just can’t do any of the water sports. So, stick to winter-months!
So, Don’t even dare to laze around on weekends!
